[Think] Another Occasional Political Update from Jason Weston

Greetings Friends and Family,

This is the fourth of these occasional updates, and I've added a number of
new people to the list in the last day or so. Thanks to those of you who
provided feedback about the U.S. Integrity Act. I've had an overwhelmingly
positive response to that, and I'm hoping to get it circulating. Any
assistance would be appreciated.

The focus of this update is the disparity between what we're seeing on the
news and what's really happening in Afghanistan. We've known since the
beginning of this war that we haven't been getting the whole story from the
press. We know it because journalist access to the war zones has been
severely restricted, and we know it because the paltry reports we've been
receiving strain credulity. Although the following story is a bit sarcastic
for my taste, given the seriousness of its content, it clearly demonstrates
the disparity between mainstream reporting and how things look on the
ground.

Speaking of how things look on the ground, Global Exchange's Medea Benjamin
has just returned from Pakistan and Afghanistan, and this report provides
even greater insight into what's happening. This is what should be on the
news, not the one-sided "patriotic" drivel I've been seeing on the TV news
and in the papers.

Thanks for caring about what's happening. Sometimes I feel as though Lesanne
and I are so alone in our opposition to the war, and having all of you to
talk to provides a glimmer of hope that things can improve.

Jason
