[Think] Welcome to the Think (was Peace) mailing list

I started the Peace email list in February of 1991 as a result of my
frustration surrounding the ineffectual news and media coverage of the
Persian Gulf war. In the ensuing years, the scope of the list broadened,
and its name was changed to "Think".
Now that we are on the verge of another armed conflict against an enemy
whose reach spans the globe - and includes our own back yard - I feel
compelled to resurrect this list that has been dormant since mid-1995.
While much of this list traffic will undoubtably concern itself with the
U/S. response to the September 11 terrorist attacks, the list is designed to
be more general than that. The original charter follows:
Information designed to make you think, including peace related news and
announcements, (mass) media criticism, environmental news, women's, native
american's (hell, *human*!) rights, personal liberties and electronic freedom
of information, and all sorts of other alternative news shall be posted here.
The philosophy of the list is that exposure to alternative news (that often
isn't carried by the mainstream media) is a Good Thing, and that given this
second (there is no suggestion that this news is "better") viewpoint, one
becomes empowered to make a better choice when making decisions to act.
This is *not* a moderated list, but I strongly encourage you to Think before
you post (and then Think again). I see the Think email list as a resource
from which one can learn of new and different things going on in the world,
often supplying methods by which interested people can get more information.
To this end, I would like to keep to a minimum the amount of information sent
to the Think list on any single subject. Further, my goals are to try to
limit the total number of articles down to 10 or less a week so that it does
not overload subscribers with information, and to strive for each article to
be well-written, well-researched, and as complete and self-contained as
possible. If you are not sure about an article that you want to post, I
heartily encourage you to send it to me for consideration. At the very
least, it will end up in the Think e-mail archives...
Many of the articles posted to the list are lengthy. If you don't like the
subject matter, you may vote with your DELETE key (and, if you wish, send me
email stating your position). Further, you may choose not to subscribe at
all, but to occasionally visit the Think Archives for updates.
With love and activism,
Fen
