For those of you who may wish to participate, I'm passing this oath
along. This is my pledge. For Americans, put your zip code in at
http://www.congress.org to find the names, addresses, and email
addresses of your (2) Senators, your (1) Representative, and the
President. Consider printing it out and sending it by regular mail -
politicians often pay more attention to written mail than email.
However, email would be better than nothing. For people abroad, perhaps
you can modify as needed and send to your ministers and representatives
as well.

We create the future. Pass it on.

ONE CITIZEN'S OATH

"It is the function of the citizen to keep the government from falling
into error."
– Robert H. Jackson, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, 1950

------------------------------

1. I WILL support the hunters seeking the terrorists responsible for the
recent World Trade Center and Pentagon atrocity. Justice must be served,
however,

2. I WILL NOT support bombing or killing innocent civilians for any
reason. Human beings are not "collateral". They are mothers and fathers
and sisters and brothers.

3. I EXPECT my government and my representatives to act consistently
with American values in all cases. Values as defined by the Declaration
of Independence and the Constitution, NOT values as defined by private
interest groups or corporations. Capitalism is not the enemy. However,
the representative democratic system is designed to BALANCE the excesses
that those with power can exercise on those without. We have allowed
ourselves to become lazy, and IT MUST STOP.

4. If there is a conflict between profit and values, VALUES MUST TAKE
PRECEDENCE. There are NO EXCEPTIONS.

5. I WILL NO LONGER ignore our government’s partnership with dictators,
despots, or abusive regimes for the sake of an easier life. Safety and
security for others means safety and security for me. I am willing to
live with less luxury to assure that others live free from harm or fear.

6. I WILL NO LONGER support private interest groups influencing our
government away from the highest good for all people, American or not.

7. I WILL research and evaluate independently whether these values are
being supported. I will educate myself in ways that help me recognize
misinformation and propaganda, from any side. I will not just believe
anything I'm told.

8. I WILL hold my representatives accountable for adhering to this
higher standard. If they fail to do so, they will be replaced. Every
election we will choose an entirely new government if that’s what it
takes. There will be no more relaxation in incumbency.

9. Our values are what make America a light and a hope to the world. I
WILL work to keep that light alive.

THIS I DO SWEAR as a citizen of both America and the world.

Signed,
