First, if you are concerned about the U.S. going to war against Iraq despiite
the fact that there is absolutely no hard evidence that there is any danger
to the U.S., please read and consider signing the petition at:
http://www.moveon.org/nowar/

The rest of this note was sent to me by a friend. I appreciated his words
and thoughts and felt them worthy to pass on.

Peace,

Dear friends:

Now is the time for every one of us who is not yet under the controlling
influence of the massive propaganda; and therefore who still know what is
relevant in life to stop what we are doing and sound the alarm. If there is
still anyone as brave as Paul Revere and William Dawes around, it is time for
them to ride again.

We must now stop our government to prevent a further terrible indelible
mistake. If we do not act, this mistake will permanently be written into a
history which we are going to experience first hand. The history is going to
be filled with death and also dishonor.

The Bush controlled Unites States of Arrogance are going to stifle everyone`s
dreams of justice and equality and peace. They will use an unmistakable hail
of terror delivered by our own remotely guided super weapons. It will be
slightly disguised for the benefit of our own collective national conscience
under the flimsy lie of peacekeeping.

This preemptive attack will instigate and further justify a spectacular and
repeated and perpetual response of terrorism and war making from the world of
Islam. It will retroactively explain the attacks of September 11 2001, if
they have not already been sufficiently explained. We should anticipate
these September attacks to be forgotten in relation to the magnitude of the
bloodshed which may be forthcoming.

The arrogance of this plan for war overshadows a previous King George`s
arrogance towards the founding fathers of our nation which forced a revolt
using terrorist methods. Is not this an ironic measure of its magnitude?

Human nature explains why men and women sometimes fight each other. For
similar reasons sometimes equally powerful nations go to war to resolve
differences.

Every thinking person knows something is wrong when the one overwhelming
superpower talks about declaring war on a distant nation which it does not
understand and does so for self serving reasons which cannot be openly
explained.

The USA will have no further hope of an appearance of integrity or fairness
if it pursues this war.

The USA will not be able to separate itself from the evil which it wishes to
fight if it pursues this war.

We will all know our enemy and our enemy will be ourselves.

If you, like I, have any concerns about wishing you had done something while
you still had a voice and assuming you have not already, make the calls
now. There are enough of us to stop this threatened war in this upcoming
week.

The following info is from http://www.moveon.org/

> Early next week, Congress will likely vote on a resolution to authorize the
> use of military force against Iraq. As a result of our pressure, we've won
> a few small but important concessions. The resolution no longer authorizes
> the President to use military force anywhere he pleases in the Middle
> East. It pays homage to the UN and the system of international law, and it
> requires the President to report back frequently about the status of the
> conflict, the plan for reconstruction, and the impact of a war on Iraq on
> the campaign against terrorism.
>
> But while the language has softened slightly, the resolution still allows
> the President to go it alone, without any allies. It permits him to wage
> war against Iraq indefinitely, and it doesn't require him to work within
> the dictates of the UN Security Council. If Congress passes this
> resolution, the President will be able to launch a war against Iraq on a
> moment's notice. No more authority or Congressional approval is needed.
>
> In lobbying calls over the last week, we've heard again and again that
> Congresspeople are taking this vote very seriously. The sheer volume of
> calls and letters, some aides have told us, has caused Congresspeople to
> think twice about rubber-stamping Bush's proposal. Many Senators and
> Representatives are still on the fence about how to vote; Senator Susan
> Collins (R-ME) called this the most difficult issue she's ever wrestled
> with.
>
> It is absolutely critical that we keep the pressure on in these last few
> days. Please call your Senators and Representatives right now.
